Our Mission is to provide a convenient online marketplace for farmers, farm producers and consumers; to buy and sell fresh local farm products, in Piscataquis, Penobscot, and Somerset counties.
We Now Accept SNAP/EBT Benefits!
Our first week at the outdoor market was a great success. The markets wireless SNAP/EBT (Food Stamps) machine came. Thanks to grant moneys from the USDA, and lots of research and paperwork, we can now serve our community on a much wider scale. Please spread the word to anyone that you think might benefit from it!

All of the items, on our inventory, are Food Stamp eligible, including vegetable seedlings. Folks can also use them at the outdoor market on Tuesdays from 2PM-6PM or Saturdays from 9AM-1PM. We accept not only EBT, but also all major credit/debit cards, checks, and of course cash!

Just a reminder, grass fed meats are only available through the online market, and farm take out is available on a limited basis at the outdoor market. Please order ahead of time, to make your Farmers Market experience a one stop LOCAL shop. If you or someone you know has limited internet access or limited experience; please feel free to ask me to place your order, at the market on Saturdays. I am more than happy to help.

I also wanted to mention that I received an email last week about our the font on the newsletter. It is very small. I have been trying to remedy this, but haven't gotten it figured out yet. In the meantime, if you are having a hard time reading out print, there IS a workaround. Please hold down the control key [ctrl] on your keyboard and then press the + symbol. each time you press it, the text should magnify itself. I hope that this helps, while I am trying to fix the problem. Sorry for any inconvenience.
Featured Recipe: Irish Beef Stew
With such damp drizzly weather, what better to serve up for dinner than a hearty beef stew? Irish Stew is one of my favorites, the beer really adds a hearty warmth to the dish. Add a fresh tossed salad, and a fresh loaf of anadama bread, and this is a meal that will warm even the coldest of bones.

Recipe courtesy of Yummly.com

Serves 4

1 pound beef stew meat, grass fed preferably
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon butter, unsalted
2 cloves garlic, minced
sea salt, to season
fresh cracked black pepper, to season
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 bay leave
1 can Murphy’s Stout or Guinness
5 cups beef stock, homemade preferably
2 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 yellow onion, large dice
3 carrots, scrubbed clean, roughly diced
5 yukon potatoes, scrubbed, roughly cut
1 handful parsley, minced

Melt butter in 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Pat meat dry. Brown the beef.
Add the garlic, sea salt, bay leaf, and cracked pepper and cook a couple minutes just to blend the ingredients.
Add the tomato paste, stout and stock, bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat to a very low simmer and cook for 5 – 6 hours.
Remove from heat and let cool. Skim off any fat.
Heat the remaining 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a frying pan over medium head. Add the onion and and cook for about 5 - 10 minutes until soft.
Add the carrots and potatoes to the onion and stir. Let cook for about 5 minutes and then add to the broth/meat mixture and cook over a very low heat for about 1 - 1 1/2 hours, covered.
If you would like a thicker stew, then thicken with a little cornstarch before serving. Stir in the parsley.
Serve. Eat.
