To log on to Harvest to Market and place an order, start by going to http://www.harvesttomarket.com

Once there, enter your e-mail address and password. Then select Vermont and Food Works as your market. Once you have made it into the market you can shop as you would any online store. Add items to your basket and check out when you are done. You can update your orders until Friday at 3pm, when the market closes. 

Once the market is closed, fresh produce will be ordered by the farmers and will arrive at the Root Cellar for delivery on Tuesday morning. When orders go out an official invoice will be sent along with the box of food. Invoices are expected to be paid within 30 days of delivery. Invoices not paid within 30 days of delivery will incur a 1% interest charge every month that they are unpaid.

Recipe of the Week

Roasted Radishes with Radish Greens

INGREDIENTS

3 bunches small radishes with greens attached
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
Salt and freshly ground pepper
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice


METHOD
1. Preheat the oven to 500°. Trim the radishes and wash the greens; pat dry.

2. In a large ovenproof skillet, heat the oil until shimmering. Add the radishes, season with salt and pepper and cook over high heat, stirring occasionally, until lightly browned in spots, about 2 minutes. Transfer the skillet to the oven and roast the radishes for 15 minutes, until crisp-tender.

3. Return the skillet to the burner and stir in the butter to coat the radishes. Add the radish greens and cook over moderate heat until they are wilted, about 2 minutes. Add the lemon juice and season with salt. Serve the radishes right away.

Good Afternoon Farm-to-Table Participants,

It feels like not long ago we were all anxiously anticipating those first leafy greens to come out of our greenhouses. The nights were bitter cold, reminding us that even though there wasnt snow on the ground, its still Winter here in Vermont. I know we were all getting a little tired of last years carrots, beets, and onions.

Well, dear friends, we can say goodbye to old man Winter, and welcome with warmth in our hearts our good friend SUMMER TIME!!

As of this week, post-memorial day, all of our farmers have begun emptying out their greenhouses of all those greens, and planting all of the amazing field crops we know and love so much. Yes thats right, tomatoes, peppers, carrots, leeks, onions, squash, cucumbers, and WAY more!

What does that mean for us? well growing crops in a field, while much more risky, is much more cost effective; so over the next few weeks we should be seeing a decrease in the cost of our spinach and mesclun greens. Also, we will welcome field lettuce. Thats right, local organic lettuce at $1.50 / hd. UNBEATABLE.

Wellspring Farm, Marshfield - Baby lettuce mix and Beautiful bunched Basil

Littlewood Farm, Plainfield - Rhubarb (amazing, and humungous) and Braising greens (great for sautee or to throw in those salads we're all eating again

Robin Taylor, Marshfield - A wide variety of head lettuce, a small supply of Asparagus (sorry to those who did not receive theirs. Last week's dry spell put a stop to the crop, but its back this week!) and of course eggs eggs eggs!

Pebble Brook Farm, Brookfield - Radishes, Red Leaf Lettuce, Mesclun and Baby chard!!

Santa Davida Farm, Waitsfield - LOTS OF ORGANIC STRAWBERRIES. buy them by the quart. $6.00/qt. these beautiful strawberries are packed with fresh local sweetness. or buy them by the flat (8 qts. for $45.) Also, European Cucumbers, Curly Green Kale, and more head lettuce!!




Ok - that concludes our availability for the week. get those orders out, feed your kids and your elders with FRESH LOCAL FOODS!

- Packing slips that arrive with boxes are now your invoices. These documents are to be saved and used as a current invoice. Each month, sites and buyers will receive a statement of unpaid balances, etc.
