Grandma's House Bakery & Gardens is a mini family farm offering this winter: fresh eggs from our cage-free hens, jams and pickles made from our own vegetables, and home baked goods.

About us

Grampy Carl and Grandma Gail have retired... that is, we've replaced the old worn out tires with new ones, and kept right on goin'!

With 3000 square feet of gardens, half of it under unheated hoop houses, we grow enough veggies for ourselves and then some to share with neighbors and friends. Everyone knows that a seniors' fixed income could use a little bolstering, so we charge a fair price for our offerings and we all are benefited!

Grampy Carl has been working real hard re-structuring our growing method. He's taken out the back-breaking approach of roto-tilling everything to a fine powder, and replaced it with that of gently covering the bare earth with composted chicken manure and wood chips. As the natural processes of soil, micro-organisms, and worms do their mysterious work of building fertility, we wait, then plant, anticipating a good harvest.

The wood chips aid in keeping insects at bay, eliminating the need for pesticide use. They also aid in retaining rain water. Thus we find we have reduced our carbon footprint (no more fuel guzzling rototilling), reduced our water consumption, and, best of all, are retaining soil nutrients where they are needed by stopping soil run-off during hard rains.

As Grampy rests from his labors this winter, Grandma Gail keeps her ovens fired up with baked-to-order breads, rolls and desserts for you. Nothing beats the winter blahs than a fresh baked pie from Grandma!

And the hens keep laying their best gift for us all...high quality fresh eggs!
