Late off the Start Line
Our farm has been chugging along this spring, we have lots of plants growing and we are still planting seeds. We just started harvesting a variety of other vegetables than just asparagus and rhubarb. Lettuce, kale, arugula, napa cabbage, cilantro and kohlrabi are the new stars coming from the garden.

Strawberries are looking good and we spotted the first ripening one this this week. It looks like the late frost did not affect our blueberry bushes, plants are loaded with tiny green berries.

Carrots and peas have kicked in and are now putting out some growth, but will still need 2-3 weeks before a harvest is possible. Our tomato plants are growing and blooming, and have tiny fruits set. Beet greens are slow coming but we have high hopes.

We got our potatoes planted fairly early, they are all hilled up for the second time, mulched with straw and covered with row fabric to keep out the potato bugs.

Peonies are budding and bouquets will be available this week.

On another note:
We have been battling the groundhogs this spring, experiencing seven encounters already. I admit that a couple are repeat offenders. .

While our schedule has changed this year we hope to accommodate our customers when possible to make eating fresh organic local produce and fruits from our farm an option.

The rain has not been a big issue as it is helping to get all those seeds started without needing to water. That's the bright side of these rainy days.

We look forward to a season filled with fresh food and hope you are as well.
