Last week at the market, we were completely rained out – quite literally lightened and thundered away! The storm rolled in quickly, sending us all scrambling for shelter under our tents. Our merchandise, and we farmers, got quite wet. With the forecast predicting another burst, we decided to pack up around 4 pm, even with coolers still full of fresh produce. We apologize if you arrived after we'd already departed.

Being a market gardener truly puts a farmer through a full spectrum of emotions. It ranges from the success of healthy, harvestable crops and the quiet contentment of a well-maintained garden, to the intense demands of consistently providing a variety of quality produce and being present at the market weekly.

That said, we have good news to report: We've successfully removed five raccoons and the relentless, persistent greens- and herb-eating porcupine from the garden! He was big and healthy, with a nice, shiny coat—truly a testament to why it's important to eat your greens. We are still being cautious, uncovering the bean crops during the day for pollination and re-covering them at night... just in case.

This week we are offering a couple of new crops: sorrel and shiso for those who want to add something fresh to their cooking or salads. We will also have beets, baby mokum carrots, Early Jersey cabbages, broccoli, cherry tomatoes, endive, and limited quantities of cucumbers, summer squash, and zucchini, along with our regular mix of greens.
