Dismantling Phase
As the month rolls into the next the days ahead will be dedicated to stripping down the garden beds that are filled with crops whose life began just months ago. Each seed planted this spring was nurtured, observed, and cheered on, all in hopes of a beautiful harvest. It’s a repeating cycle that never gets old..

We are now reversing our spring work; the deconstruction has begun. We’re pulling plants that have stopped producing, cutting away dead flower heads, and putting away the netting and row covers that sheltered our crops. These seasonal tasks ground me and connect me directly to the soil, the wildlife, and the wonderful people who share a love for the vegetables, fruits, and flowers we grow. We hope the stories and news we share in our newsletter bring the garden to life for you, including all the adventures, anticipation, and even the failures.

This week, we'll lose some of our cucumber plants as their leaves have started to fade and fewer blossoms open on their vines. We've already pulled the sunrise sauce tomato plants, the Hansel eggplant, and the wax bean plants.

On a brighter note, we expect a flood of blossoms this week, so our bouquets will be large and full of asters, gladiolus, sunflowers, cosmos, and zinnias. Just let us know your desired color choices, and we'll aim to please!

Enjoy the long weekend, and we hope you'll be eating locally grown foods.
