Garden Chores
After Thursday's deliveries, while a light drizzle persisted, we took the time to wind the tomato plants up on their strings and trim away some foliage. We wanted to let more light shine onto the fruit in hopes of speeding up the ripening process. We are not sure if the theory actually worked, but the Red Pear, Valentine, and paste tomatoes are finally changing color, and our taste tests give them a big thumbs up!

Help a farm girl out this week and grab a head of cabbage or two! We planned ahead this spring by doing staged plantings of five different varieties, but nature had other plans and they are all sizing up at once. Cabbage has to be picked before it bursts open, which means our little market refrigerator is quickly filling up. The good news is they will keep for a long time in your fridge too—we find that wrapping them in a towel keeps them crisp and fresh the longest.

We also have some deep wine-red celosia and white Sweet Williams coming into bloom that will make striking tabletop bouquets. Our gladiolus are blooming madly right now as well. The mix is producing gorgeous variations of peach at the moment, but we have yellow, burgundy, pink, and other colors to mix into the bunches.

August is bringing us a bounty: the very last of the blueberries, strong production of Marketmore cucumbers, and Zephyr summer squash. We are digging fresh potatoes daily, and the Tobago Filet beans are ready to harvest, too.

We hope you have a wonderful week and enjoy plenty of fresh, local produce!

A quick note on availability:
Please keep in mind that we’ve cut back on our vegetable production this year, so many of our items are limited! The quantities listed are our best estimates of what we expect to harvest. Mother Nature loves surprises, so sometimes we end up with a little more, and sometimes a little less than expected. We appreciate your understanding and support!.
