Busy as a Bee
Some days it feels like you are just buzzing around the garden, cutting this, pulling that, moving stuff, clearing beds, bundling and hanging crops, and picking, picking, picking. This makes for a lot of stretching, bending, stooping, and lifting. All this is done for food and flowers to enjoy now and throughout the coming months. We joke about charging people to come up for a "workout" to get in shape, and one would most likely get a good night's sleep to boot.

An interesting new crop we planted this year is Mexican Bayo, an heirloom bean great for refried beans. As the picture shows, the plants are growing well, climbing and covering the five-foot fence, but we have yet to see a blossom on them even though we are in mid-August. Will we get dried beans from this crop? Stay tuned.

For our customers who look forward to our watermelons and cantaloupe, we recommend finding another local grower to supply them this season. The plants are not producing an abundant crop this year, and we are not sure if this is a farmer issue or just a quirk of this growing season.

New this week are Goldilocks wax beans and habanero green peppers for the brave heat lovers.

Enjoy the week, and may you eat lots of fresh, local food.
