Gold Mine or Bust
We spotted a few new things in the garden this week, pleasant and not so pleasant.

The first was seeing that the watermelons are sizing up. This is always an exciting thing for myself as I love watermelons and eat them daily while available.

Second was finding the aster plants in bloom, one of my favorite flowers but in my mind they are a fall flower much like the goldenrod that is in bloom everywhere now.

The third sighting was not so pleasant but expected, it was baby tomato hornworm caterpillars. So far we have found fifty-three. That's a lot but the good news is they were very small, about the size of a grain of rice. I noticed small circular holes in some of the tomato leaves and on inspection found these little buggers on the underside of the leaf. The search will continue...

This week is the last of the cabbage and pearl onions. We have beet greens listed, they are tall with small beets. Cherry tomatoes will be from two varieties; Valentine grape and Five Star grape.

Zinnia, sunflowers, and dahlias are our bouquet flowers of the week with a few other  types mixed in occasionally.

Enjoy the month of August and eat well.
